About Us

Simply Native Plants was established in 2015 by Nicole Harris and Stephan Hart with the aim to connect people and native plants in Southern Appalachia. We create regenerative landscapes, and advocate for the use of native plants via thoughtful design, education, and functional garden planning & management.

Nicole Harris brings 15 years of professional experience in horticulture and ethnobotany, teaching and collaborating with diverse organizations like The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Nantahala Outdoor Center, SOLO SouthEast, Austin Parks and Recreation, Girl Scouts of America, and the SCC Outdoor Education Program. Her main focus involves harmoniously blending natural environments with human-made spaces to combine function, ecological design, sensory experiences, edible & medicinal accessibility, and wildlife conservation.

Stephan Hart is a trained taxonomic botanist who has taught plant ID and use at the University of Florida, Nantahala Outdoor Center, 4H, Boy Scouts of America and for a multitude of businesses and non-profit organizations. His eye for detail, and expertise in landscape scale and architecture lend to designing memorable and enjoyable outdoor environments.
